Project Description
Bouygues have selected Walker Modular to help them deliver the large £190 Million Student Accommodation scheme for University of Hertfordshire.
The project is a transfer of the University’s existing residences (1,561 bedrooms) of which 1,060 will be demolished, leaving a requirement for 2,511 new student accommodation bedrooms. It is a specific requirement that the new accommodation be delivered in 3 phases, with the first phase being available for the start of the 2014/2015 academic year (and the 2 following phases respectively 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic years).
The nature of this transaction has been designed to help support the University in its prime objective: To improve the quality of teaching and student living experience through the development of new residential facilities.
The scheme will obtain BREEAM outstanding and True Zero Carbon ratings, making it among the first student accommodation schemes in the UK to achieve such accreditation.
The University of Hertfordshire has more than 27,700 students of which 3,600 are international students from over 85 different countries. The University also has a global alumni network of over 165,000. In 2011, Hertfordshire was ranked 10th for the quality of research and 8th for quality of teaching. Created in 1952, it rapidly became a centre of excellence in mechanical and aeronautical engineering
