Walkers Create A New Pod For Kings College, London

Project Description

Walker Modular are pleased to announce that they are providing Bathroom Pods for the new student residential development at King’s College, London on the existing Champion Hill site.

GB Building solutions won the contract to rebuild a major Hall of residence with a bid of £34m. The project will involve building four new buildings up to five storeys in height and a major refurbishment of the large Grade 11-listed Victorian building.

Demolition of existing buildings at the Champion Hill site in Camberwell, south east London is now well underway to clear 1960s blocks to build 740 new or refurbished eco-friendly rooms with all Bathroom Pods provided by Walker Modular. This new accommodation will reduce energy consumption and ensure substantial CO2 savings. Photovoltaic panels on the roofs, a combined heat and power installation, low energy fittings, and heat recovery systems will cut energy consumption levels and help to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 77% per student.

Work is already underway and the project is due for completion in Summer 2014.

Spokesman M J Poole said “Walkers have designed a complete new mould specific for Kings College London in order to help them to achieve their Carbon Management Plan for this project whilst providing high quality accommodation for their students. The Kings College Pod is currently been delivered to site and installation of the pods has begun”
